From the Leader of Wellbeing - Year 8

Year 8 Camp

Year 8 attended YMCA Camp Yarramundi on Thursday 10th - Friday 11th November. Students enjoyed this camp as part of the Major Experiences Program.

The aim of the camp was to provide students with many opportunities so they were able to develop a sense of community, a sense of belonging, respect and care for their peers, a sense of achievement, skills and confidence.

Over the 2 days, students were encouraged to participate in a number of activities that challenged them in terms of personal growth and to build upon their teamwork and collaboration skills. Some of the activities students participated in were the giant swing, rock climbing, orienteering, bush craft, flying fox, initiatives and alpine rescue.

Year 8 Camp Reflections

The year 8 camp adventure allowed me to do something new and meet different people. Activities such as the giant swing and rock climbing proved a great opportunity to step outside my comfort zone, considering heights definitely isn’t my thing. Overall it was a great experience and is definitely something I’ll remember for a long while.

Camp was a fun and engaging experience. I enjoyed being able to participate in challenging yet entertaining activities like the alpine rescue, flying fox, giant swing and orienteering. At Camp, I learned how to problem-solve and make decisions effectively through being in a team. Alpine Rescue, required us to get through the obstacle course and return to our checkpoint, it was a struggle however we got close to finishing. Other activities, such as the giant swing and flying fox seemed scary at first but after trying them, I enjoyed them and went countless times. Being at Camp was an overall entertaining experience where I got to have fun and engage in skill-building activities.

The year 8 camp was really fun, l really enjoyed the activities that they provided. On the year 8 camp we got to do activities with our elective classes, which meant we got to meet new people that we never talked to before.

My year 8 camp experience was absolutely wonderful from the moment we left our school all through the next evening.Throughout the whole first and second day we had so many activities to enjoy and bond together as a cohort. I was able to get out of my comfort zone in a variety of activities such as rock climbing and giant swing. Overall I am so grateful that I got to experience an amazing camp with all my friends and peers across year 8.

At camp I enjoyed doing the activities like giant swing, rock climbing, orienteering and bushcraft. I enjoyed spending time with my friends, and also liked the food that the camp provided us with. I thank the school for giving us the opportunity to go away on this camp and have fun.

I had the pleasure of attending the Junior Art Showcase on Tuesday afternoon at our College. The work on show was outstanding and we have some very talented artists at our College. Year 8, keep applying yourselves in all your lessons. You have had an amazing year so let’s keep this up for the remainder of the year. Keep trying your best, ask for feedback and complete all your classwork and homework as everything counts.
