Newsletter 10 2023

Dear Members of the St Andrews College Community,

This Newsletter brings Term 2 to a close. What an eventful Term we have had with Debating, Unity Day, the PDSSSC Dance Competition, Write a Book in a Day, numerous formative and summative assessment tasks, Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences, our Athletics Carnival and PDSSSC Cross Country, numerous excursions to challenge and supplement students in their learning, as well as our Japan Trip leaving last night and our Vietnam Trip leaving Monday morning. Thank you to all staff, students and parents for their focus, support and capacity and I look forward to seeing you all in Term 3.

Term 3 for students starts on Tuesday 18th July due to teachers across the Diocese being given extra days to write programs for the new Syllabuses that are coming into effect in 2024.

Gospel Reflection: Matthew 10:37-42

Jesus instructs his apostles that true discipleship requires them to prioritise their love and devotion to him above even their closest family relationships. He also emphasises the significance of receiving and supporting those who come in his name, assuring that even the smallest acts of kindness towards his disciples will be rewarded.

The readings for the 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time teach us to prioritise our relationship with God above all else. The stories and verses emphasise the importance of hospitality, recognizing God’s goodness, and selfless devotion to Jesus.

Unity Day:

Anyone who was present during the day witnessed an exceptional celebration of diversity and inclusion. It was wonderful to see so many students dressed in their traditional culture's dress as well as celebrate their culture through performance and dance. We had the Social Media Team from CSPD ask me to take some shots of students on the day for a wellbeing video they are putting together and they were blown away by the size of the day and the way the students were celebrating our diversity as a Catholic school community. Congratulations to all the students and staff who contributed to the day being such a success. The rehearsals, the sound and set up, feeding the masses, and coordination of the many aspects of the day. We are so fortunate to have such a great community.

Building Works:

At present we have the guttering being completed around the Junior Campus and that will be completed in a two week period. During the holiday period the Junior Campus Hall will be resheeted during the holiday period and this will be followed by the internal lining being installed and all the electricals being upgraded. This will serve to insulate the Hall better during the extreme temperatures and assist the air conditioning in the space.
