Year 8 Yakisoba Lesson
The year 8 students had their Japanese Cooking lesson in Term 4 Week 6-7, where they had the opportunity to taste the delicious Japanese dish called ‘Yakisoba’. This culinary event was enhanced by the assistance of students from Year 10 and 12 Japanese courses, who generously shared their knowledge and enthusiasm for Japanese cuisine. We were also joined by special guests who recently completed their HSC Japanese Continuers at St Andrews College.
Students from Year 10 and 12 eagerly volunteered to assist their younger peers, cooking yakisoba in the junior quad area. They shared their experiences of studying Japanese as an elective subject, providing valuable tips and cultural insights. This collaboration fostered a supportive atmosphere and a sense of camaraderie among the students of different ages.
While waiting for the yakisoba, Year 8 students learnt how to use chopsticks and the table manners phrases いただきます (itadakimasu) and ごちそうさまでした (gochisousamadeshita). The air was filled with the delicious aroma of sizzling noodles, creating an atmosphere of excitement and joy. Students enjoyed the food and the experience, celebrating cultural exploration and the joy of tasting Japanese food - yakisoba together.
A special thank you to the Year 10 and 12 students for their mentorship and to the Japanese teachers for facilitating this cultural experience. We look forward to more enhancing opportunities that blend cultural exploration with hands-on learning.
