Senior excursion to the Art Gallery of New South Wales
On the 26th of March, the Visual Arts seniors of the school travelled to the Art Gallery of New South Wales with Miss Mamuk and Mrs Psaila.
We visited the ARTEXPRESS 2020 collection, the general Art Gallery and the Contemporary Collection. Our intention was to investigate artists’ techniques in their selected expressive form and how well they executed their technical skill. We also explored the connections made between artists’ chosen concept, how well it was depicted amongst the in-depth layers of meaning and how well this engaged their audience.
We saw a variety of artworks displaying high technical skill and extensive knowledge of their artmaking practice whilst they incorporated elements of art history to support their development. The range of expressive forms and level of execution was unbelievably amazing and was truly an inspiration to say the least.

“It wasn't only very fun and enjoyable but it also really helped with the development of our own HSC major works. I was able to understand the qualities of which the markers are looking for in the HSC in regards to the Band 6 level exhibition and gathered a range of inspiration. I can imagine that it would greatly benefit the year 11s in planning the first phase of their BOW”

“My visit to The Art Gallery NSW, was an extremely beneficial and enjoyable experience as we saw intriguing artworks that expressed various ideas and experiences that the artists wanted to portray in unique ways. The range of expressive forms and materials used, displayed the limitless pathways we can take with our artworks. Seeing real-life examples of Year 12 major works has benefited me in my HSC course as they portray how unusual materials and techniques can help create an effective artwork, which I can try and implement in my own Body of Work”
