From the Leader of Learning Wellbeing Year 9

Dear Parents and Students of Year 9,

Our Wellbeing Lesson on Friday 24th March focused on Building Resilience. Learning Group activities stressed the importance

of developing students’ understanding of resilience, through identifying their skills and coping strategies. Students were given the opportunity to discuss and explore how these skills can assist them to overcome any future challenges that they may face.

Resilience is emotional strength. It’s the ability to cope when exposed to challenges or stressors. Resilience allows people to bounce back by adapting to stress and changing in healthy ways. It can be difficult to overcome challenges at times in our lives and often young people feel distressed, anxious or isolated. Resilience allows young people to regain control over their situation, without having a negative emotional response.

As members of St Andrews College, our mottos “Faith in Christ“ and “Doing More and Going Beyond“ sum up our daily purpose of being part of this Community. The Year 9 students were given the opportunity to discuss their life experiences with the other members of their Learning Group and to show their support to those who have faced difficult times in their lives.

Over the first Term, the Year 9 Learning Advisors have been getting to know their students. I would like to thank all of the Year 9 Learning Advisors for their hard work and support of their students throughout Term 1. It is with their encouragement and daily assistance that the year group achieves and thrives.

Year 9 has had a wonderful start to the year. I would like to congratulate all of the Year 9 students who became involved in the extracurricular activities throughout Term 1. Students are recognised for their achievements at our School Assemblies and at our Wellbeing Year Group Meetings. I would like to encourage all students to get involved in the upcoming extra curricular activities that St Andrews has to offer. Let’s make Term 2 the best one yet!

Below are a few photos taken of student involvement in our Wellbeing Year Group Meetings. I wish the Year 9 students a safe, restful and happy holiday. I am very much looking forward to a wonderful and successful Term 2 with the year group.
