Athletics Carnival
What a day! The sun was shining, enthusiasm was high and house spirit was alive! Students participated in long jump, high jump, shot put and the 100 and 200m sprint, as well as some novelty events including basketball, volleyball, tunnel ball, bucket ball and tug of war.

There were 3 records broken on the day:
- Andre Dera of year 12- ran the 100m in 11.02secs, beating the previous record of 11.09
- Hailey Targarona of year 12 set a new High Jump record of 1.50m compared to a previous College record of 1.48m
- Deng Joseph of year 11 also set a new High Jump record of 1.87m, smashing the previous College record of 1.80m.
The atmosphere in our College hall was electric watching these two talented young people persist in their attempts to better themselves and beat the College records.
Well done to these students on this achievement!
Congratulations also to both the female staff and male staff relay teams who beat the year 12 student teams! The students were just no match for us!
Frances took out the top spot for war-cries, followed by Bennelong, Chang and then Gould.
Chang had the best overall participation, followed by Bennelong, Gould and then Frances.
The total competitive points were super close, with Frances and Gould tied, followed by Chang and Bennelong with only 64 points difference!
The final results of the day were as follows:
4th place on 1723 points was GOULD
3rd place on 1736 points was BENNELONG (only 13 points between 3rd and 4th)
2nd place on 1764 points was FRANCES (only 28 points between 2nd and 3rd)
1st place on 1863 points and the WINNERS of our 2022 College Athletics Carnival was CHANG! Congratulations to all the students in Chang. What a close carnival, with only 140 points between 1st and 4th and 99 points between 1st and 2nd place! Participation and involvement really counts here!
We had 41 students successfully qualify for our PDSSSC Athletics Carnival which will be held on 26th of August. Further details about this will be distributed via a Compass event in Term 3. Please use the holidays to train hard to prepare!
A final reminder to any student who would like to nominate a distance for the PDSSSC Carnival in Javelin, 1500m, Triple jump, Discus, 400m and/or 800m; please email me kbrogan@parra.catholic.edu.au as these events were not run at our College carnival. These event distances/times must be competitive and verified by a student’s local Athletics club.
I have extended the nomination deadline to Tuesday 21st June.
Student sporting successes
Jake Parkes of year 12 recently competed in the NSWCCC Cross Country. Jake finished 24th out of 28 runners with a time of 34 mins; an impressive result at this competitive level!
Congratulations, Jake!
Amelia Manks of year 8 was successful in gaining a position in the NSWCCC Softball team. Amelia will be playing in the NSWCCC Softball team at the All Schools Tournament held at Softball NSW, Blacktown International Sportspark on Monday 25th July. Congratulations Amelia! We are very proud of your successes!
Brooke Robinson of year 10 recently competed at the Level 9 Australian National Championships. Brooke competed in the Day 1 team competition as a part of the NSW team which placed 2nd overall. Brooke qualified for the Day 2 Individual competition where she placed 1st on vault in the Junior division.
Congratulations, Brooke. You should be so proud of yourself to achieve this success at this level!
You may recall reading that last term, Romeo Atengco of year 10 and Bianca Infante of year 11 were both selected to represent NSW at the Combined Catholic Colleges Volleyball tournament. This occurred last Friday 10th June. Romeo and his team competed against CIS(Combined Independent Schools), CHS(Combined High Schools) and All schools Combined. Romeo’s team had won against All schools which was the first time that this had been achieved in 10 years which is a huge achievement! His team then sadly lost to CIS 0-3 and CHS 2-1 with CHS winning the whole tournament. Romeo shared what a great experience he had and what an honour it was to represent our College and himself at such a level.
Bianca’s team finished in 2nd place, losing to CHS in a close final. Again, a huge congratulations to you, Bianca! Your dedication and love of Volleyball is evident. The St Andrews community is very proud of you both.
Here are some photos from the day of both Bianca and Romeo with their teams.
