NSW All Schools Diving 2022
On Friday 3rd June, seven students from St Andrews College competed at the NSW All Schools Diving competition at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre, Olympic Park. To get to this level, they all had to place 1st, 2nd or 3rd at the NSW CCC championships earlier in the year.
The day started with the older age groups. In the 16yrs girls springboard event, St Andrews had two students competing. Holly McLoughlin placed 7th in her first All Schools event while Marley Kozak placed 5th, improving two places from last year. Each girl performed eight dives which in itself is no mean feat.
Our next diver to compete was Gabriel Narayan. In his first year of diving, Gabriel has shown a lot of promise. He worked hard to gain new dives for this competition and managed to place 4th, only 10 points behind 3rd. Gabriel is now the first reserve in his age group for the next level, School Sport Australia.
The youngest divers had the longest wait, competing in the 12 and 13 yrs age groups. All these divers have only been in the sport for 5 months and dived well beyond their experience. In the 13 yr girls springboard, Ruby Scicluna placed 8th. In the 12 yr girls, Chelise Fernandez finished 5th with Emily Riddout a close 6th behind her. Our final diver was Xavier Borg in the 12 year boys age group. Xavier improved the score from his last competition and finished on the podium in 2nd place.
I would like to congratulate all divers on a wonderful season and thank Mrs Borg for taking on the NSWCCC manager role and looking after the team.
We are looking forward to the launch of our St Andrews College Diving Club next term, so if your children are interested in diving, please email Mrs. Weaver aweaver@parra.catholic.edu.au for more information.
