Newsletter 10 2022
Dear Members of the St Andrews College Community,
Congratulations on a very productive Term 2. As I look back on the Newsletters that have been published I was encouraged by the variety of learning experiences that were made available to our students as well as the willingness of staff to support them. I hope you all have a restful holiday and come back to Term 3 with a renewed vigour and drive.
‘It’s All About Learning’
Gospel Reflection - Luke 10:1-12, 17-20:
Jesus sends out 72 people to announce the coming kingdom.
Families teach a sense of togetherness and community. It is in the family that we learn that we are dependent on one another and where we learn to work together and live together. In this Sunday's Gospel, Jesus sends out the 72 disciples in pairs, a sign that we are to work together to serve the mission of the Kingdom of God.
Talk about all the ways that your family works together. Talk about the various chores and tasks that family members work on together to accomplish in order to keep the household running smoothly.
Read aloud Luke 10:1-12,17-20. Talk about why it was important that Jesus sent his disciples out in pairs. Discuss ways that your family can work more closely together to support one another and to make the household run more smoothly. Pray for the strength to overcome the temptation to be too individualistic and to recognize the need for working together as a family.
Safe Parishes Launch and Lunch:
Congratulations to the Year 12 Hospitality students who catered for the Safe Parishes Lunch in the St Andrews Parish Hall last week. The level of catering as well as interaction with the Bishop and guests was exceptional. Many people commented on the ability of our students to engage, their manners, and their service. Thank you to Mrs Carlos and Mrs Van Der Werf for all of their assistance and preparation of our wonderful students.
Unity Day:
What a day it was. Congratulations to all students and staff who played a part in the day. Bol Bol’s speech was a real inspiration and started the day so well after our Blessing from Fr Greg and Deacon John. We have such a wonderful and diverse community at St Andrews College. We must always remember that.
Year 7-10 Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences:
Thank you to all the parents and students who attended the evening Tuesday Week 9 and Wednesday this week. I know the staff have spent a great deal of time collecting formative and summative data in their efforts to make learning and feedback the best it can be. Any staff member who was not present for the interviews that you may have scheduled will be contacting you and will report to me when they have concluded all communications. It is most important that we provide regular and meaningful communications with all parents regarding their child's learning.
CSDA Debating Progress:
The Debating season will resume in Week 2 of Term 3 with our Year 7A Team progressing through to the final rounds. Our Year 12A Team were very unlucky not to progress as a result of a split decision favouring the other school in their Elimination Final. They were the form team of our Region. They reached the finals in all six years of Debating. What a record.
Toilet Renovations Senior Campus:
When we return you will see that the toilets have finished and ready to use. They look great and are fitting of the standard our students deserve. Now for the next toilet block. I have shown the Senior Student Leaders the proposed layout and we have made some minor additions based on their feedback.
